Citation Policy

Journal of Innovations in Pharmaceutical and Biological Sciences (JIPBS) maintains clear standards for citation practices, both for how authors cite others' work within their manuscripts and how JIPBS articles should be cited by others.

Citation Style

JIPBS follows a numbered citation style (Vancouver-style), with in-text citations appearing in square brackets in order of appearance (e.g., [1]), and a correspondingly numbered reference list, as detailed in the journal's Author Guidelines.

How to Cite Articles Published in JIPBS

Authors citing JIPBS articles in their own work should follow the standard journal article format:

Author(s). Article Title. J. Innov. Pharm. Bio. Sci. [Year]; Volume(Issue): Page range.

Example:
Mariam Atef, Dina Abo El-Matty, Dawoud Fakhry Habib, Wassef Girgiss Nicola, Samy Saleh, Hanan Hanna. Ameliorative effects of inulin on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus in obese women. J. Innov. Pharm. Bio. Sci. 2020; 7(2): 6-16.

Each published article's assigned Crossref DOI should also be included where available, to support permanent identification and citation tracking.

Author Citation Responsibilities

Authors must:

  • Accurately cite all sources that directly informed their research, methodology, or interpretation
  • Avoid excessive self-citation of their own prior work where not genuinely relevant to the current manuscript
  • Not cite retracted articles as valid evidence, except where the citation specifically discusses the retraction itself

Prohibition on Citation Manipulation

Consistent with the journal's Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement, JIPBS strictly prohibits citation manipulation, including:

  • Coercive citation — reviewers or editors requiring authors to add citations (including to the reviewer's or editor's own work) as a condition of a favorable review or acceptance decision
  • Citation stacking or citation cartels — coordinated arrangements between authors, editors, or journals to inflate citation counts artificially
  • Fabricating references, or citing sources the author has not genuinely consulted

Reviewers and editors identified as engaging in coercive citation practices will be removed from JIPBS's reviewer or editorial pool and may be reported to their institution, consistent with the journal's Conflict of Interest Policy.

Verification

The editorial team may verify the accuracy and relevance of citations during the review process and may request clarification or correction where citation practices raise concern.
